Letter Boxed Answer for September 20, 2026
Today’s board is built from:
OIS, EPM, LRH, and FTW
The answer is HIMSELF into FLOWERPOT, a two word solve that closes out the puzzle cleanly.
FLOWERPOT is a nice example of an everyday compound word doing a lot of work at once, covering more than half the board by itself once HIMSELF sets up the right starting letter.
Letter Boxed Answer for September 19, 2026
The September 19 Letter Boxed puzzle runs on:
IWK, VTO, RNS, and UAY.
Solve it with VIRTUOUS into SWANKY for a two word genius result.
VIRTUOUS does most of the heavy lifting here, pulling in eight of the twelve letters on its own, which leaves SWANKY as a short, easy finish once you spot the opener.
Letter Boxed Answer for September 18, 2026
Today’s sides are:
OED, KTB, CPA, and NUI
The solution is KNOCKABOUT into TEPID, another clean two word finish. KNOCKABOUT is an unusual choice that covers a wide spread of today’s letters, so if you got stuck partway through, that missing word is very likely why.
Letter Boxed Answer for September 17, 2026
The September 17 Letter Boxed puzzle is built from:
SYJ, RCM, AEB, and LIO
EMOJI into IRASCIBLY solves it in two words.
EMOJI is a fun, modern entry that plenty of players will not expect the dictionary to accept, and IRASCIBLY is exactly the kind of longer word that makes a genius solve possible on a board like this one.
Letter Boxed Answer for September 16, 2026
Today’s letters are:
TIL, FGE, ANO, and RZW
The answer is FRATERNIZING into GLOW.
FRATERNIZING alone accounts for the vast majority of today’s twelve letters, which is a good reminder that scanning for one long, unusual word first is often faster than building up several short ones.
Letter Boxed Answer for September 15, 2026
September 15’s board uses:
JUM, SHN, IQY, and KGR
Solve it with HIGHJINKS into SQUIRMY for a two word genius result.
A Q and a J appearing on the same board makes this one of the trickier layouts this month, and finding HIGHJINKS as an opener is not obvious on a first attempt.
Letter Boxed Answer for September 14, 2026
Today’s Letter Boxed sides are:
DVL, ERI, ONB, and CMA
The solution is CORDOVAN into NIMBLE.
CORDOVAN is a less common word, referring to a type of soft leather, so it is worth remembering the next time a similar letter combination shows up on a future puzzle.
Letter Boxed Answer for September 13, 2026
The September 13 puzzle sits on:
PWE, LTA, IDN, and FGU
UPLIFT into TWANGED clears the board in two words.
Both words are common enough that many regular players will land on this solve without needing a hint, making today a solid one for building confidence if you are still working toward consistent genius solves.
Letter Boxed Answer for September 12, 2026
Today’s letters are:
FET, LIH, ORS, and BWZ
The answer is BLOWFISH into HERTZ, another efficient two word solve.
A Z and a W on the same board is a fairly rare combination in Letter Boxed, so if today’s puzzle felt tougher than usual, that is likely why.
Letter Boxed Answer for September 11, 2026
September 11’s Letter Boxed board is built from:
ECG, HNS, UKB, and YLO
Solve it with BOUGH followed by HONEYSUCKLE for a two word finish.
HONEYSUCKLE alone covers most of the board, which is exactly the kind of long connecting word worth watching for whenever you are hunting for a genius solve rather than settling for four or five words.
Letter Boxed Answer for September 10, 2026
Today’s NYT Letter Boxed puzzle uses the sides:
ABU, SLI, OEC, and QVN.
The solution is VOLCANO into OBSEQUIOUS, a clean two word genius solve that touches all twelve letters without a single wasted move.
OBSEQUIOUS is the kind of word that rarely shows up in daily play, which makes today’s board a good one to bookmark if you are building vocabulary alongside your Letter Boxed streak.

How the Daily Letter Boxed Puzzle Works
Every 24 hours, The New York Times publishes a new letter boxed board as part of the NYT Games suite. All players who visit the page that day see the same twelve letters, arranged the same way on the same four sides; this is part of the reason comparing your solve with a friend or a spouse is so satisfying, since you are essentially solving the same puzzle.
This game was created by Sam Ezersky and published by The New York Times in 2019 as part of the same ecosystem as Wordle, Spelling Bee, and Connections. As of 2026, playing the official daily puzzle in full requires an active NYT Games subscription, which is why a page like this one, along with a free unlimited version to practice on, tends to be useful if you want to play more Letter Boxed than the subscription wall allows.
Why We Recommend Trying It Yourself First
The answer box above is hidden behind a click for a reason; part of the appeal of a daily puzzle is working through the process of figuring it out rather than just knowing the answer. Give yourself a genuine few minutes before revealing anything, and if you get stuck, we have a full how-to-play guide and strategy guide that cover the same side rule, chaining, and the techniques experienced players use to find efficient solves without giving anything away about a specific day's puzzle.
What Counts as a Strong Solve
Letter Boxed is scored purely by word count rather than time; a two-word solution is called a genius solve and is considered the strongest possible result on a board that allows one. Not every day's puzzle has a two-word path available. Three to five words is a solid, competent result on most days, and six or more still counts as a complete win.
Missed a Previous Day?
Older puzzles are listed above in order, newest at the top, so you can scroll back if you missed a day or two. If you are looking for a specific date further back than what is shown here, check our full archive.
Want to Keep Playing After Today's Puzzle?
The daily puzzle is, by definition, just one board a day. If that is not enough, our unlimited mode will generate a fresh, guaranteed solvable board every time you ask for one, with Easy, Medium, and Hard difficulty settings and no subscription required. It is a genuinely different experience from the daily format since there is no single correct puzzle everyone is comparing notes on, but it is a solid way to practice the same skills between one day's official puzzle and the next.
